Anybody that follows my work understands my thoughts on transforming relationships. Transforming a relationship doesn’t happen in one day. It usually doesn’t happen on those commercial days either. In fact, appreciating someone on a specified day can really cause you to miss the boat. Sometimes it takes years to get a handle on how to truly show appreciation to loved ones.
Showing serious appreciation is a process. The process varies depending on the relationship. Inspired, this year I decided to do something different. My appreciation will be demonstrated by transforming Valentine’s Day. The transformation will be called Single Awareness Day. All Single Awareness Day requires is all single people must Love thyself before Thy love neighbors, families and friends. Consider this:
1. Love Thy Friends and Family means spending your energy baking cute treats or getting gifts to show the great people in your life you really appreciate them. Giving always makes you feel better.
2. Love Thy Neighbor – Reach out to other singles and invite them over for a celebration or a night out, even if you do not know them that well. That stranger in your office probably doesn’t want to spend the night alone any more than you do.
3. Love Thyself – Pamper, pamper, pamper. Why not buy yourself a poem book? My Beautiful Black Sisters one way to share feelings? Purchase some roses while treating yourself to chocolates as you get your nails done. Show yourself some much-needed love, so when Mr. or Mrs. Right comes along, you can let the love inside you just bubble over.

Ingenuity and tenacity are always at the core of any company’s success. Just ask CEO and entrepreneur Anthony Dyson if you ever find him with an idle moment. Known as D$Money Dyson, he understood it would be an uphill climb to start Tri-State Entertainment Records when he teamed up with his partners Jared “Boss P” Person, and Brandon “Yung Bama” Bridges to form the label in 2007.
Releasing hits like A-state Gigolo, Hard Work No Play, Interstate Trafficking, and Reckoning Day, Tri-State Entertainment reflects the company’s eclectic history. First, their roots were firmly established on their home scenes which includes Alabama, Arkansas, and Florida. Second, their musical development has evolved from a home-grown blend to an international brew. Third, all three label members honorably served their country as sailors in the United States Navy before coming together to make their music.
Stints in the Navy took them to the Middle East. Nothing deters this crew. Even life in Bahrain gave them opportunities to demonstrate their ambition and nurture their creative forces. It appears that being in harm’s way only helped them to become more driven. Tri-State officers are also astute enough to appreciate the importance of reaching out. Dyson’s collaboration includes artists from 3MG label circa their transitions, Zadrion “Dj Yung Stylez” Hawkins and a best beat selling producer. Hawkins has been associated with Atlantic Records.
Staying true to their roots, these men have returned home to enroll at local college and universities honing hone their talents by studying business management, photography, and nuances of entrepreneurship. Dyson encourages his partners to embrace all highs and lows of each endeavor. The Tri-State Entertainment label doesn’t allow anything to interfere with their mutual vision. A lull in opportunities becomes a platform for restructuring. A service obligation became a value proposition, and a challenge became the fuel for creativity. Music fans, it’s a wise choice to follow Mr. Dyson and his artists. Beware, their music is not for the faint at heart or tender ears. But those of kindred spirits doesn’t include you. So click Anthony D$Money. Anthony offers up some Arkansas Swag with Florida flavor.

R. Narvaez’s Roach Killer and Other Stories offers a peek into the gritty side of Brooklyn life. Inept criminals, frustrated mistresses, a hit man, and a host of others seep into our senses making you cringe and laugh as these characters stumble.
Reading the book made me laugh out loud. Most of the time I wanted to scream, “I know you really don’t want to go there?” It’s good nobody was listening because they did and I went right along with them. The story lines hooked me. Being the weak reader I am; clicking to the next story was never a problem. I like to finish things. These stories were hard to resist. Character predicaments carried a dose of reality with a twist of comeuppance. Sometimes it was predictable. Yet I was entertained by the end of the evening.
This one is a keeper for the noir fans out there.
